The property has one hundred forty-five residences that range in size from one-to-five bedrooms, including full-floor homes and duplex penthouses with private elevators. The tapering design and the diagrid mean that the layout of each condominium residence is unique. The building's sculptural form, progressive yet reminiscent of classic Manhattan skyscrapers, incorporates an innovative exposed structural system, the diagrid as Nouvel calls it. Those who have a few million dollars to spare now have plenty of options to choose from, and there are many willing to shell out huge price tags to live in a posh, state-of-the-art residential tower designed by a starchitect. The flurry of new residential supertalls crowding and forever changing the city skyline can be attributed to the increased demand for luxury housing in transit-oriented urban centers. In Queens, rezoning plans and the high demand for luxury condominiums has resulted in various residential skyscrapers popping up on the borough’s skyline, and the tallest one of them is already underway. The tallest building in Brooklyn was completed earlier this year, and soon it will be surpassed by another skyscraper that will be the highest structure outside Manhattan. The building has been awarded BREEAM Excellent certification.New York City is reaching higher and higher towards the sky, with numerous supertall projects planned or already in the works, and not just in Manhattan. The thickness at these intersections has been carefully calculated to help reduce solar heat load, creating a balance between the transparent and opaque parts of the facade and ensuring pleasant natural light throughput for the offices and hotel rooms. The glass panels are held in place by a unique aluminium profile system in which the profiles are thickest where they intersect, protruding half a metre. The elements are based on the biggest jumbo size flat glass panels available (3.20 x 6.00 meters), divided into six triangles in order to minimise waste, with around a hundred single-storey-high glass triangles per floor. The facade’s characteristic appearance is the result of more than a thousand elements (covering 8,700 m²) made of AGC Stopray Vision-52T toughened solar control glass combined with aluminium profiles. What makes this structure so unique is the slanted, diamond-shaped glass roof, forming a fifth facade and enhancing the feeling of verticality, like an elegant silhouette.
